Let's talk about those goals and dreams you fantasize about while working at your 9-5 job. Yes, we have all been there~ letting our minds wander off to think about all of the things we would rather be doing than working for somebody else. (I know I have!) While straight up walking out of a job is probably not an option for most, I can tell you what is- JUST START! Start that side hustle that you've been putting off for the future when the "time is right", start that fitness journey instead of binging Netflix for hours, start making time for self care, etc. I have learned that there will never be a perfect time to start working on something you want to achieve but to simply just take action as soon as you can! Your best life is waiting for you to JUST START.
So we have the first step- 1. START!
During this phase of starting on this new journey, one thing to keep in mind is that you most likely won't be very good at what you are doing. Which makes complete sense right?! Like if you were already good at it then you've probably been doing it for a while. Time brings progress so in the beginning, do not get down when you fail, can't go as long on the treadmill, can't figure out how to edit, aren't getting any views, are experiencing time management problems, miss a day in your new routine and so on. What matters is how you react to those beginning failures. You can give up, go back to letting your mind wonder what your life could be like and fall back into your old ways or you can pick yourself back up and keep going.
Now for the formula ~the secret sauce~. We all have used the term 'motivation' or the phrase 'I'm just not motivated'. That's because duh! We are not always going to be motivated 100% of the time. The weather, a bad day, our mood- it all changes and this affects our motivation levels. SO- my point is that you cannot rely on motivation alone to drive you towards your goals. But you CAN rely on this formula...
Discipline + Consistency = The key to success
When you discipline yourself to do the steps you need to take (no matter your circumstances or how you feel) and combine that with being consistent, you are headed down the road to achieving your dreams! It's not easy by any means. A very interesting study I read showed that only 8% of people achieve their goals! EIGHT PERCENT! That is due to lack of discipline and consistency. It's hard not to give up when you aren't seeing progress. It may take months or even years to see any progress. But it will come if you use this formula.
I believe if you are still reading this you want to do something greater with your life and have big dreams. Let me be the one to tell you, even if no one else believes in you, I do! I believe that humans are capable of extraordinary things. God has gifted us with abilities we may never even know we have if we don't push ourselves out of our comfort zones.
A few inspiring quotes by the great, Thomas Edison:
"Many of life's failures are people who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up."
"I have not failed 10,000 times. I have not failed once. I have succeeded in proving that those 10,000 ways will not work. When I have eliminated the ways that will not work, I will find the way that will work.”
“If we all did the things we are really capable of doing, we would literally astound ourselves.”
Now, go be great!
XOXO
